History of LCR
In 1979, the Lutheran Church in America designated the Reverend Dennis Wright as a missionary to the northwest area of San Antonio for the purpose of establishing a new congregation in that area. He soon organized a small group of parishioners and on September 9, 1979 held the first worship service in the Leon Valley School, located at the intersection of Bandera Road and Grissom Road.
In 1980, the work of organizing the new congregation began in earnest. The name “Lutheran Church of the Resurrection” was chosen, the charter was developed and the congregation was officially organized on April 20, 1980.
The church grew and land for a new sanctuary was purchased. On August 1, 1982 ground was broken for construction of the new church. Design and construction were completed and the new building was dedicated on May 15, 1983.
